2010-04-12 13:39 BJT

Somali pirates have hijacked a Saint Vincent and Grenadines flagged cargo ship in the Indian Ocean.

The MV Rak Afrikana was hijacked early Sunday about 280 nautical miles west of the Seychelles islands, and is now heading to Somalia. Earlier, the EU Naval Force said the ship with a deadweight of 75 hundred tons, stopped due to engine problems.

Earlier reports had indicated that 23 Chinese crew members might have been on board. But the latest report has confirmed that the ship's 26 crew members were actually Indian, Pakistani and Tanzanian and not Chinese.
