Afghan President Hamid Karzai starts 3-day state visit in China

Afghan President, Hamid Karzai, starts a three-day state visit to China Tuesday at the invitation of President Hu Jintao.

The 53-year-old Karzai was picked as leader of the Afghan Interim Authority in December 2001. In June 2002, he was elected president of a transitional government. In October 2004, Karzai was elected president in Afghanistan's first presidential election and was re-elected last November.

Karzai visited China in 2002 and 2006, and attended the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
