Transport authorities say during the seven-day Chinese Lunar New Year holiday, hundreds of millions of passengers were safely transported to their destinations.
China's Ministry of Transport says more than 270 million road trips were made during the holiday, up more than 10 percent over the same period last year. The waterway sector reported more than 6 million journeys during the week, up two percent from last year. And more than 3,700 of flights were made; that's a rise of nearly 15 percent. The flights served nearly 480,000 passengers, up about 20 percent from last year. The Ministry of Railways expects this travel peak will last longer than previous years, saying passenger volume will remain high as students and migrant workers return.
