The United Nations Development Program has announced its preliminary reconstruction plan for Haiti. A work-relief program has been drawn up to help survivors.

The agency plans to employ Haitians to do reconstruction work including clearing rubble, road repairs, and rebuilding infrastructure.

The first batch of 400 employees have began to work. More than 700 will be employed by the end of the week. The first stage of the work relief program is due to pilot in the communities south of Haitian capital Port-au-Prince.

It will then spread to other parts of the country. The agency estimates the program will employ more than 220 thousand Haitians and indirectly benefit a million more.
