Special Report: Strong Quake Hits Haiti |
With roads blocked by debris in Port-au-Prince, the U.S. military has been forced to drop aid in, from the air. More troops have been deployed in Haiti to restore much needed order.
A C-17 cargo plane, deployed from Pope Air Force Base in North Carolina on Monday, is the only hope of delivering aid fast.
The lack of infrastructure makes it almost impossible to get supplies to some areas by road. In the 7-hour mission, the crew was able to deliver 14-thousand meals and bottles of water.
The US has also deployed more troops. Six helicopters dropped soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division on the lawn of the collapsed presidential palace.
Others have been sent to the Port-au-Prince General Hospital, to protect international medical teams who are working around the clock.
