International relief efforts are continuing in the Caribbean nation. The Port-au-Prince airport has been flooded with aid, and many countries are offering to eliminate the country's debt.

US president Barack Obama made a thirty minute phone call to Haitian president Rene Preval.

He expressed strong support for the Haitian people and promised an expansive relief effort.

Countries including Lebanon, Indonesia, and Turkey have also provided aid to Haiti.

France said it would eliminate the 54 million US dollar debt Haiti owes to Paris.
