The Democratic People's Republic of Korea has proposed holding talks with South Korea on resuming tours to areas inside its territory.
Tours to the Kumgang resort, run by an affiliate of the South's Hyundai Group, were suspended in 2008 after a South Korean female tourist was shot to death by a DPRK soldier. The tour to the border town was also halted in the same year. The DPRK's leader Kim Jong-il called for the resumption of the country's tours, but the South has yet to accept the deal. Seoul's Ministry of Unification has said they do not plan to immediately respond.
