President Hu Jintao has arrived in Macao to attend celebrations for the 10th anniversary of Macao's return to China.
Major officials from the SAR government and representatives from all walks of life in Macao welcomed the president at the airport. President Hu Jintao will keep a tight schedule throughout his two-day visit to the Macao Special Administrative Region. Shortly after his arrival, he will attend the opening ceremony of Macao's new Science Museum. In the evening, he is scheduled to attend a banquet and gala hosted by the SAR government to mark the anniversary. And on Sunday, he will attend the inaugural ceremony of Macao's new Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai-On and the new SAR government. Also on Sunday, he will lay the foundation stone for a new construction project, the Macau University's new campus on Hengqin island. Upon his arrival at the airport, President Hu Jintao delivered a speech.
President Hu said, "10 years on, Macao has developed together with the motherland. It has made many encouraging achievements in various social causes. Through the visit, I hope I can see with my own eyes the changes that have taken place in Macao over the years. I'd also like to summarize the experiences of the successful implementation of the pinciples of one-country, two-systems and Macao people governing Macao with representatives from all walks of life. I'd also like to extend my sincere congratulations and greetings to the people of Macao. "
