As the biggest developing country, China is now actively involved in all global organizations dedicated to tackling climate change. Through various channels, China has offered scientific cooperation at the international level, in helping turn back the tide of global warming.
To show its seriousness of being a responsible member of the international community, China voluntarily took measures to combat climate change.
Before the Copenhagen Conference opened, China announced plans to reduce the intensity of its carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP in 2020, by 40 to 45 percent compared with 2005 levels.
China has also acknowledged that international cooperation is crucial in tackling this global challenge.
Last week, Premier Wen Jiabao held separate telephone conversations with Indian Prime Minister and the Brazilian President. The three leaders agreed, to enhance coordination and cooperation to deal with climate change.
The same day, Premier Wen and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, held an in-depth telephone discussion regarding their views on global warming.
China has consistently promoted the United Nations framework convention on climate change, and the Kyoto Protocol.
As world leaders try to hammer out an agreement to substantially cut greenhouse gas emissions at the Copenhagen conference, the importance of international cooperation seems all the more crucial.
