A home for disadvantaged children has opened in Northeast China's coastal city of Dalian. The Sunshine Yihong Children's Village mainly cares for orphans and children whose parents are in custody. It's reportedly the country's first registered private welfare institute.

Most of the youngsters at the welfare institute have lived through the painful experiences of roaming the streets or suffering from violence. In the Dalian children’s village, however, they are treated like a real family. All have been given the new surname Hai, which means sea. They also call the service staff members "mother" and "father."

These three children are siblings who moved to the institute in June. Their mother died in 2008, and their father is in prison.

Hai Lian, resident of Sunshine Yihong children's Village, said, "I am very happy because I can study in school like normal children. But before, I dared not imagine this since I have to take care of my brothers. "

The 4-year-old, Hai Ming, likes to be hugged by others very much. After staying at the institute for some time, Hai Ming has learned to sing a number of songs.

Hai Ming, resident of Sunshine Yihong children's Village, said,"Goose, Goose, Goose ... You with a long-crooked neck sing to the sky ... Floating on green water by feathers in white.”

16-year-old Hai Wa, is studying at a local high school. He wants to be a lawyer like the group's “father,” Wang Gangyi, who is the director of the institution.
