Interview: Expansion of anti-dumping duties

2009-11-19 13:13 BJT

The European Commission will decide on Thursday whether to expand anti-dumping duties on leather shoes imported from China.

The EU decided to levy anti-dumping duties of up to 16.5 percent on imported Chinese shoes three years ago. It said the measures were meant to protect importers and retailers in some southern European countries.

For more on that, we now have Professor Liu Baocheng, from the University of International Business and Economics.

Hello Professor Liu:

Q1: We know that when the anti-dumping duties were brought up in the EU three years ago, there was strong protest within the body. How is the situation now? What is the body's current position?

Q2: China claims it is not dumping leather shoes onto the EU market, but the EU insist on the duties. Why is that?
