Special Report: US Army Base Deadly Shooting |

Americans have been expressed their shock and dismay in the wake of the Fort Hood shooting.

The shooting rampage at the Texan military base killed 13 people and injured more than 30 others. The violence has been met with nationwide grief in the US.

"I was shocked. I feel sorry for the people who die." said a resident.

"I really do feel sorry for everyone that have died in there. It's crazy," said a resident.

"Well, certainly tragic. Very sad that it has happened, especially in a military base, which we think as being a secure location," said a resident.

According to reports, the Fort Hood shooter was facing imminent deployment to Afghanistan. But US President Barack Obama warned against jumping to conclusions on the shooter's motive.

The tragedy prompted new discussion over Obama's policy in Afghanistan.

"This is an individual shooting by itself. I think it is highly unlikely that one of it like this by itself would compel President Obama to decide one way or another on Afghanistan," said a resident.

"I think he has to take time to think what needs to be done in the region. I don't want him to make a hasty decision. I want him to make a decision after he considers all the factors and consulted with all of his advisors. This is certainly a decision that would impact all America and our future," said a resident.

The campaign against Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan has lasted eight years. Despite dissatisfaction, Americans hope that their president will make decisions on careful consideration.
