Int'l community recognizes Karzai as legitimate Afghan president

The international community has recognized Hamid Karzai as the legitimate president of Afghanistan. The United Nations and many world leaders have also expressed their desire to work closer with the government to revitalize the country.

The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, says he welcomes the decision of the Afghan election body to cancel the run-off vote and congratulated Karzai for winning a new term.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said, "The United Nations and the international community will stand by in working together with the next president, next government and the people of Afghanistan."
