Turandot debuts at Bird's Nest

The famous opera "Turandot", has performed at the National Stadium for the first time, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Zhang Yimou, who also directed the opening ceremony of the Beijing's Olympic Games, staged a show that saw nearly 40 thousand people attend on Tuesday.

A one thousand square meter screen, with 40 million pixels and 32 projectors, was set up at the stadium.

Director Zhang says the Bird's Nest version of the "Turandot", brings the audience a completely new, audio-visual feast, with fashionable modern elements.

Nearly one thousand participated in the opera, including the Italian conductor Janos Acs and popular Chinese singers. Staging the opera cost nearly 120 million yuan.

"Turandot" will play again at the National Stadium on Wednesday, and will be staged in Shanghai next May.
