Special Report: 60th Anniversary of PRC |
In today's introduction to China's provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities, we take a look at Guangdong.
As the south gate of China, Guangdong has been open to the outside world for a long time.
Guangdong had 94.5 million permanent residents at the end of 2007, making it the most populous province in China.
Guangdong is also China's biggest economic powerhouse, with last year's GDP reaching 54-hundred US dollars per capita. It's taken the lead in China's economic development for 20 consecutive years since 1989.
Guangzhou, as the provincial seat, is the largest coastal city in south China.
Three special economic zones, Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Shantou... have been established in the province.
And the Pearl River Delta areas and the whole coastal region are an ideal place for foreign investments.
Many fairs and exhibitions are held in the province every year. The most famous one is China Import and Export Fair, also called Canton Fair. It is held in the province twice a year. The fair was inaugurated in 1957, and is known as China's Number 1 Fair due to its long history, highest standards, largest scale and wide variety of exhibits.
