Each year, the small Swiss city of Lucerne attracts renowned musicians and a hundred-thousand music lovers from around the world.

This year, the Lucerne Music Festival brings its essence to Beijing's National Center for the Performing Arts.

From Sunday to next Friday, the Lucerne Music Festival will treat Beijing audiences with six concerts.

Renowned conductor Claudio Abbado will lead the Lucerne Festival Orchestra in four symphony concerts and two chamber music concerts.

World renowned Chinese composer Tan Dun and award winning Chinese piano player Wang Yujia are slated to perform. Tan Dun will accompany the Mahler Chamber Music Ensemble for its latest composition.

The Lucerne Music Festival was launched in 1938 by conductor Arturo Toscanini.

Since then, conductors Wilhelm Furtwangler and Herbert von Karajan served as Artistic Director for the festival. The featured performers are top notch players of classic music.

Previously, the festival has transported its prime shows to other cities including Tokyo, New York, and Vienna.
