The US tariff decision will affect the lives of an estimated 100,000 Chinese tire workers. Zhu Xiaojun is one of them.
37-year-old Zhu Xiaojun is a worker in a rubber plant in Hangzhou. He has been working here for nine years. This nine-square-meter room is his family's home in a suburb of Hangzhou. They do not lead a rich life, but with their child, life is happy. But since hearing about the increase in tire tariffs, the breadwinner of the family has become very worried.
Zhu Xiaojun said, "There will be less positions. Some workers will be laid off. So our life will inevitably be affected."
Zhu Xiaojun also said that if he could meet President Obama, he would tell him it's wrong to implement trade protectionism.
According to the China Rubber Industry Association, more than 20 Chinese companies are involved in the tire case. 100-thousand workers will be affected. Among them, 20 to 30-thousand workers will be laid off.
