Shaanxi: Cradle of Chinese civilization

As we continue our tour of Chinese provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, today brings us to the Shannxi province.

Located in the northwest of China, Shaanxi province is rich in both natural attractions and archaeological treasures. It is considered one of the cradles of Chinese civilization. Thirteen feudal dynasties once established their capitals here during a time span of more than 1-thousand years.

Xi'an, Shaanxi's capital, is the eastern terminus of the Ancient Silk Road, leading to Arabia, Europe and Africa.

Han Chinese constitute the majority of population, with some ethnic Hui around the north western areas of the province.

Located in the Shanbei region of Shaanxi province, Yan'an is regarded as the cradle of the Chinese Revolution. Cave dwellings are also a unique sight here.

The terra-cotta warriors and horses is the most famous tourism destination. Local farmers discovered the figures in 1974 near Xi'an. Further excavation revealed this magnificent relic featuring hundreds of life-like and life-sized figures, varying in height, uniform and hairstyle.

Located in Qinling mountain range, Mount Hua is renowned for its precipitous cliffs, winning itself a reputation for danger.

The Hukou Waterfall, Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, Emperor Qinshihuang Mausoleum, and the local wheaten food also attract people from both home and abroad.
