There are four weeks to go before the 60th anniversary of the founding of New China on October 1st. To mark the occasion, CCTV International presents a month-long special series on today's China. In our first episode of "China on the Move", CCTV reporter Han Bin explains the issues to be covered and the major challenges the country faces.

Renovating the Tian'anmen Rostrum for National Day. This is where the big celebrations will take place.

And big changes have taken place in the past 60 years.

China is now one of the world's major economies.

And the changes continue, as the country grows stronger.

The ruling Communist Party is now building the country into what it calls a "prosperous and harmonious society."

Professor Huang Ping, director of Institute of American Studies, CASS, said, "Chinese society has a disparity of development, resulting in social, economic and culture differences. There's a gap between the urban and rural areas, eastern and western regions. Because of these differences, conflicts and potential confrontations, China puts forward such a concept to solve the problems.”
