Huangmei Opera was originally called "Huangmei tune" or "tea-picking opera." It was a folk opera that was formed in the regions of Anhui, Hubei, and Jiangxi at the end of the 18th century. One of the brands shifted to Shipai town, Huaining County, which was the center of Anqing, and mixed with its local art, using its local language to sing and narrate.
The music of Huangmei Opera is its essential attraction. The music of Huangmei Opera consisted of two parts: one part was called "ban qiang ti" singing, which included "ping ci", "ba ban" and huo gong". These are feature operas. There are 36 feature operas and 72 mini operas. The mini operas each has a unique tune, which was named "cai qiang" singing. Singing is not only the main approach to characterization but also makes Huangmei Opera distinctive stylistically and musically.
