The ninety-minute show draws inspiration from the Hakkas' daily life at the end of the Qing Dynasty. Interwoven with over twenty traditional Hakka songs delivered in their own dialect, the show traces back to the early history of the Hakkas, and showcases their distinctive customs and culture.
The Hakkas are a unique ethnic group of "Han"Chinese. They originally lived in the North of China, but social unrest, famines and other factors caused them to move southwards, eventually ending up in Guangdong and surrounding provinces.
Led by producer and director Chen Xiaoqi, a majority of the crew and cast members are Guangdong natives.
Chen Xiaoqi said, "I am not a Hakka, but I spent 13 years of my childhood in Meizhou city of Guangdong province. For the first tour of the show, I want to take it to places where the most Hakka people live. "
On the heels of the Guangzhou premiere, the show will tour to the cities of Shenzhen, Dongguan and Huizhou.
