Historical drama "Red Cradle" debuts on CCTV-1

Revolutionary drama "Red Cradle" is to air on CCTV-1 from Saturday. The show brings to the small screen a piece of valuable history when Mao Zedong, Zhu De and Zhou Enlai tried to establish revolutionary bases between 1929 and 1935.

The TV series starts at a time when Mao Zedong was viewed as a rightist opportunist and was removed from a position in the army. Wang Ying, who plays Mao Zedong in Red Cradle, says that he understand that Mao was at a low ebb at the time. His inner anxiety, the direction of the Red Army and the destiny of the nation were the clues for him to grasp the character.

In the revolutionary bases, Mao Zedong carried out land policies and promoted education and cultural causes. The relative prosperity of these bases concerned chairman of the Kuomingtang government, Chiang Kai-shek.
