National Center for the Performing Arts pays tribute to Cao Yu

2010 is the 100th birth anniversary of the late Chinese playwright Cao Yu. Now, the National Center for the Performing Arts has announced the opening of an entire season commemorating the great dramatist.

The season will open with a production of "Wilderness," one of Cao Yu's best known plays.

Created by the Tianjin People's Art Theater, this version has won international acclaim since its debut in 2006. The play is a tragedy set in rural China in the midst of a drastic transformation of values. It is noted for its profound social significance as well as the poignant romance.

The play will run for 11 performances starting this Wednesday.
