Chinese embassy to help Chilean quake victims

The Chinese Foreign Ministry immediately set up a 24 hour hotline after Saturday's devastating quake struck Chile, to provide information and assist Chinese nationals.

By Monday, 400 calls had been taken, mostly from friends or relatives, asking on the situation of the 36 Chinese nationals affected by the quake. With the help of the embassy, 27 of the 36 Chinese have been located and are said to be in good condition.

There are more than 10 thousand Chinese-Chileans and 4000 Chinese nationals in Chile. The Foreign Ministry says they will continue to locate and assist affected Chinese nationals.
