Special Report: Strong Quake Hits Haiti |

China's riot police team in Haiti has made a series of headlines in the Chinese media over the last couple of days. Escorting the rescue and press teams has been added to the riot squad's long list of duties. As the security situation in Port-au-Prince becomes grimmer, escort vehicles are being replaced with armored versions.

He Can, Officer of Chinese Riot Police Team in Haiti, said, "Intense gunfire can be heard near our camp every night now. The situation all over Haiti is very unstable. So we have stepped up protection during services."

The team carries out patrol and guard shifts 16 hours a day. And they do this while carrying 25-kilograms of weapons and equipment in temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius.

In addition to the routine, they also help out with the search and rescue of victims still trapped in the rubble.
