Special Report: Strong Quake Hits Haiti |

China is contributing more money and relief materials to Haiti. Liu Zhenmin, China's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations announced on Thursday that an additional 2.6 million U.S. dollars in cash and a 40-member medical care and epidemic prevention team will be sent to Haiti.

Liu expressed China's hope that the Haitian people, with the help of the international community, will overcome the current difficulties and rebuild their homes and life.

The new Chinese contribution follows the donation by the Red Society of China of one million U.S. dollars in cash to Haiti. And on January 15th, the Chinese government announced the provision of about 4.4 million U.S. dollars worth of humanitarian emergency supplies to Haiti. Meanwhile, 60 Chinese medical personnel are already working in the Carribean nation.
