Special Report: Strong Quake Hits Haiti |

Once again our heartfelt condolences go out to the families and loved ones of the 8 peacekeepers. The Chinese rescue team left Beijing for Haiti almost ONE week ago. What have their experiences been like? Our very own Keith Crane shares with us their diary on a blog they've been keeping, describing their journey in the quake-stricken country.

The blog has been set up under the name of the 60-strong team. In the entry for January 16th, chief doctor of the medical team, Hou Shike, writes:

"Local time January 15th, 8 p.m., we are the only foreign rescue team running medical-aid stations. We haven't seen any other international rescue teams providing medical help. Maybe their main task is still searching. We have treated 120 injured people. But there are thousands more. Our medicines are being used up quickly. We have also sterilized about 300 square meters of the victim accumulation points. But there is still a possibility of an epidemic breaking out. Today, the UN Assistant-Secretary-General for peacekeeping, Edmond Mullet visited us and expressed his gratitude."

"Local time January 16th, 19:30, the wife of Haiti's Prime Minister, Mrs. Bellerive visited the Chinese rescue team's camp. She said: We sincerely thank you for the aid from China to Haiti. Your medical-aid station has saved lots of injured people. Haitian people thank you."
