Special Report: Strong Quake Hits Haiti |

China handed over its first batch of relief materials to the Haiti government on Tuesday morning, Beijing time. Haiti's government is now distributing the aid to survivors.

Chinese and Haitian delegates signed a certificate at the Haitian government house for a formal handover of the relief materials. Haiti governmental officials said the aid is being distributed to people in the capital city of Port au Prince, and its surrounding regions that were worst hit by the quake. The first batch of relief materials donated by Chinese government touched down in Haiti on Sunday. The aid, worth 13 million yuan, includes medical supplies and tents, all of which are urgently needed in the quake-devastated region.

90 tonnes of emergency aid reached Port-au-Prince after a 19 hour flight from Beijing. The materials are worth 13 million yuan, nearly two million US dollars.
