Chinese rescue team continues mission in Haiti

The Chinese rescue team has completed its search-and-rescue mission in the debris of the UN headquarters in Haiti. It discovered thirteen victims in 60 straight working hours. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who toured the devastating site on Monday, thanked them for their efforts. The rescue team is now heading to other parts of the country to continue its work.

A visit to the site where their colleagues gave their lives for peace..Ban Ki-moon and other UN officers toured the debris of the UN headquarters in Haiti, where dozens of UN staff and peacekeepers died in the massive earthquake.

The UN Secretary General didn't forget to thank the Chinese rescue team, which carried out a non-stop relief mission.

China sent its rescue team to Haiti right after the quake occurred. Rescue staff headed straight to the collapsed UN building as soon as they landed in Haiti. They worked non-stop for 60 hours, and discovered the bodies of eight Chinese peacekeepers, and five other UN staff, including the UN's special representative in Haiti, Hedi Annabi, and his deputy Luiz Carlos da Costa.
