Special Report: UN climate change conference in Copenhagen |
Developed and developing countries remain sharply divided on major issues surrounding the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The debate has focused on who should take more responsibility in the endeavor. And a leaked draft document from Denmark has further fueled a quarrel that has split the meeting.
Four days into the global climate talks there has been little progress, and questions remain as to who should cut emissions, by how much, and who should pay.
Developing countries are urging developed countries to take more responsibility. As developed countries polluted more in their process of industrialization over the past centuries, they are being asked to provide financial and technological support to developing nations to tackle climate change.
China's Climate Change Ambassador Yu Qingtai said, "This is not charity work. they created this problem, so they should fulfill their legal obligations."
