Special Report: World tackles A/H1N1 flu |

The spread of the A/H1N1 flu is gaining momentum on the Chinese mainland. Last week 9733 more people were confirmed to have been infected, making it the most common flu virus in the country. 51 have now died of the virus here.

The latest figures from the Ministry of Health show that 90% of flu cases on the mainland are A/H1N1. And over 55% of those people with flu-like symptoms have been contaminated by the new virus.

The Ministry of Health confirmed the mutation happened several months ago. But there has been no pandemic of the mutation, and officials say it can be controlled with anti-virus medicine, and prevented by the A/H1N1 flu vaccine.

Experts are urging the public to keep warm and healthy through the winter. Regular washing of hands, and the use of face masks is encouraged.
