Special Report: PLA Air Force 60-Year Anniversary |
The Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force was founded in 1949. From humble beginnings, six decades of development has transformed it into a strong, modern branch of the military. As the air force celebrates its 60th anniversary, we begin a series charting the growth of the Chinese air force. We begin with a look at its aircraft, the country's combat power in the sky.
Twelve aircraft formations flew above Tian'anmen Square during the military parade on the 60th anniversary of New China.
The Aviation Unit of the Air force has always taken the lead in the air shows for the National Day parades.
Li Wenjun, commander of PLA Aviation Unit 1st Division, said, "From propeller aircraft to the most advanced third-generation fighters, the state has always equipped our troop with the best and the latest planes. We can say that our different generations of pilots have witnessed the development of the Air Force."
The growth of the Aviation Unit is in line with the development of the country's aviation industry.
