China has launched a three-year program to inspect every school building in the country for safety flaws and undertake necessary reinforcement work to bring them all up to standard.
An initial inspection of nearly 400 thousand school buildings is expected to be completed by the end of October, and those in earthquake-prone areas will be reinforced first. Detailed safety records on each school building across the country will also be kept. The state budget has allocated 8 billion yuan to pay for safety upgrades for schools in areas prone to quakes or geological disasters.
