Chinese, Afghan leaders release joint statement

The Chinese and Afghan leaders released a joint statement after their meetings in Beijing. China reiterated its support for the peaceful reconstruction of Afghanistan, while both countries vowed to enhance cooperation in combating terrorism and organized crime.

China expressed its desire for the peace, stability and development in Afghanistan.

Supporting the reconciliation and reintegration process in Afghanistan, China pledged continued assistance to the best of its ability. It also vowed to encourage Chinese enterprises to participate in construction and development efforts in Afghanistan.

China reaffirmed its "principle of non-interference" into other countries' internal affairs to show respect for Afghanistan's sovereignty. It also supported Afghan people choosing their path of development, as suited to their national conditions.

The two sides also agreed to expand economic cooperation. They agreed to convene the first meeting of the Joint Economic and Trade Committee.

China welcomed Afghanistan's participation at this year's World Expo Shanghai. President Karzai invited Chinese leaders to visit Afghanistan at mutual convenience, to which the Chinese leaders expressed their appreciation.
