The DPRK and South Korea have exchanged artillery fire along their disputed western sea border. So far there's been no report of causalities or damage.
Seoul's Yonhap News Agency reported quoting government sources that the two sides fired Wednesday into the air, not at each other. In a statement from the Korean People's Army, Pyongyang says it was firing artillery off its west coast as part of an annual military drill and would continue to do so.
The move came after the DPRK declared two no-sail zones in waters south of the disputed maritime border in the Yellow Sea called the Northern Limit Line. South Korea says Seoul's stance on Pyongyang's no-sail zones is under discussion, and that it is considering countermeasures.
Lee Jong-Joo, Spokesman of South Korean Unification Ministry, said, "Currently, the South Korean government's stance on various situations including DPRK's no sail zone announcement is being arranged. The South Korean government's countermeasures and DPRK's intentions are also being examined now."
