CTTEE hearing into Afghan war

2009-12-09 17:05 BJT

The US General in charge of the war in Afghanistan, Stanley McChrystal, has appeared before the House and Senate Armed Services Committee, testifying for the ongoing war. He was joined by another key figure, the US ambassador to Afghanistan, Karl Eikenberry.

-- "General, will you be successful in your mission?"

-- "I believe we will absolutely be successful."

A strong sense of gunpowder.

After US President Barack Obama unveiled his revised troop plan, the man who is in charge of the war in Afghanistan finally stands before the Senate.

General Stanley McChrystal first expresses confidence in gaining the upper hand, but adds that the road ahead is uneven.

General Stanley McChrystal said, "The sober fact is that there are no silver bullets. Ultimate success will be the cumulative effect of sustained pressure across multiple lines of operation."

Under Obama's new troop policy, an additional 30-thousand troops will be deployed to the frontline, and a certain number of soldiers already there will be brought home in 18 months.

On this issue, General McChrystal meets a blunt question.
