The 11th Beijing International Automotive Exhibition is getting into gear for its opening this Sunday. Foreign car makers will showcase their latest energy-efficient vehicles to the world's largest auto market during the two-week event.

75 of the 89 models making their global debut at the auto show come from Chinese car makers.

The biennial event will be held under the theme of "Green vehicles". It's estimated that a total of 990 cars from 16 countries and regions will be exhibited at the show.

Nissan will unveil a range low-carbon vehicles, while fellow Japanese car maker Suzuki will reveal its first luxury B-series sedan in China.

Osamu Suzuki, the CEO of Suzuki, said "After the sedan has made its debut in China, we will launch the model worldwide. We will also make a hybrid version, and test-run the model in the US."

Zhang Xiaoyu, who's the vice chairman of China Machinery Industry Federation, said "The Beijing Auto Show will assert itself as a true international auto event over the next five years. The show has already become one of the world's biggest and most important auto shows."

95 new energy vehicles will be showcased at the event. Global auto-makers will also show off their latest research and development and emission reduction technologies. Energy-efficient vehicles are widely expected to become the main theme in future auto shows.

The show will open its doors to the general public on Sunday. The parking lot near the exhibition center will be able to accommodate 75-hundred vehicles.

Event organizers have urged visitors to take the subway if attending the show. Shuttle buses will run from various subway stations to the exhibition center. The auto show will run until May the 7th.
