US sets new anti-dumping duties on China pipe

The US Commerce Department says it's set preliminary anti-dumping duties on imports of seamless pipe from China, a move that could escalate trade disputes between the two countries.

The preliminary result said Chinese producers have sold seamless pipe in the US at up to 98 percent cheaper than local producers. Now, the department could instruct US Customs to collect a cash deposit or bond based on these preliminary rates. The products covered by this investigation are used for a wide range of industrial piping systems.

This result follows the US initiating an anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigation on Chinese aluminum extrusions on Wednesday.
