Taiwan interest in mainland property

As Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng is visiting Taiwan at the invitation of Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin, many Taiwan residents are showing their interest in buying property on the mainland, especially in Shanghai.

An survey shows that Taiwan residents are likely to invest in overseas property markets, with Shanghai being the favorite destination, followed by Tokyo and Singapore. Analyst point out the relatively high rent and convenient transportation are the major reasons that most Taiwan residents take Shanghai as their first choice. Meanwhile, some mainland tourists have also expressed a will to investment in Taiwan's housing market. One survey shows that 20 percent of Taiwan respondents say some of their mainland friends are planning to buy houses on the island.
