Taiwan parties to debate ECFA

2010-04-09 18:14 BJT

A debate between the Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou and the chairwoman of the major opposition Democratic Progress Party, or DPP, Tsai Ying-wen is set to be held on April the 25th. The debate will focus on the proposed Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement with the Chinese mainland.

While the DPP is opposed to the ECFA, authorities are sparing no effort to promote the deal to the public. The government has held two forums on ECFA recently with many local companies participating in the hope the pact can bring new business opportunities. Related departments have also pledged to provide training schemes.
