Cohen urges US to promote free trade

Former US Secretary of Defense, William Cohen, has said the Obama Administration's protectionist measures against China and its pressure on the yuan's value may harm both sides. He also called on the US government to promote free trade.

In September 2009, US President Barack Obama opted to impose high tariffs on Chinese tire imports for three years. Cohen says he hopes this is an isolated case, but added the Obama Administration can do more to promote free trade.
