The British Foreign Secretary has paid a visit to his country's World Expo pavilion in Shanghai. David Miliband attended the inauguration of the pavilion, saying its architecture showed off a positive image of Britain.

Miliband said the 38 million US dollar British Pavilion for the Shanghai World Expo, will showcase the very best of his country. He said the event will provide a great opportunity for Chinese people to learn about Britain's scientific and technological prowess.

David Miliband, British Foreign Secretary, said, "We believe that the British pavilion is going to say some very positive things about Britain about our creativity, about our commitment to sustainability, about our scientific excellence - symbolised by the seed bank here, about our openness and desire to engage with the people of China, the 40-thousand Chinese who are going to visit here everyday."

He also made positive remarks on the relationship between China and Britain

"I would charactarise the relationship between Britain and China as one of cooperation, as one of partnership, as one of respect, and as one of growing engagement. We don't pretend that we agree on every issue, but that is a mark of the mutual commitment we have to work through and differences that exist and to do so on a basis of mutual respect." David Miliband said.

On Tuesday, he will fly to Beijing to meet with his Chinese counterpart, Yang Jiechi, and Premier Wen Jiabao. Miliband arrived in China on Sunday as part of a three-day visit to boost ties and cooperation between the two countries.
