Thai tourism affected by protest

The red-shirted protesters' rally in Thailand is expected to dampen tourist arrivals, as many countries have issued travel warnings for the country. Nearly all tour groups from China to Thailand have been suspended.

Travel agencies in Shenzhen have suspended nearly all tour groups to Thailand because of potential safety risks. Some have amended their routes to avoid any possible conflict.

Fang Zhaowei, GM, BCTS Travel Service, said, "The protests have made many travellers worried. For their safety, we have postponed tour groups as long as possible. "

Those who are currently travelling in Thailand, are asked to avoid visiting locations where protests are taking place and to remain aware of personal safety.

Fang said, "Currently our tourists in Thailand are safe. Most tourists are in scenic spots, they are not affected by the protests in the city. They are feeling stable, we are also telling our staff to focus on their safety."

The travel agency says they will arrange for travellers to return in a few days.

The number of foreign arrivals in Thailand will drop due to the tension. Analysts say should the mass rally by the Red Shirt demonstrators turn violent, it will seriously undermine the tourism sector, so future numbers of foreign visitors very much depend on how the rally ends.
