Toyota vows to improve global quality amid massive recalls

The president of Toyota, Akio Toyoda has admitted that the world's number one auto maker rushed to increase production volume without an equal push for safety standards. He also said that the company will add brake-override systems to all future models worldwide.

The Toyota president reiterated, that customer safety came first, vowing to boost quality control standards.

Akio Toyoda said, "I myself would like to focus on internal reform to improve quality management. I will make the changes my current priority."

To accomplish this, he said he would focus his energy on improving the quality of Toyota's vehicles worldwide.

Akio Toyoda said, "In order for our customers to ride our cars with a secure feeling, we have decided to add a brake-override system to all future models worldwide. This system will set the brake when the accelerator and brake pedals are stepped on at the same time."

Toyoda also said his company would appoint a chief quality officer to each major international region, to serve on the newly established Special Committee for Global Quality.

The committee, which will be headed by President Toyoda, will hold its first meeting on March 30th.
