Toyota recalls more vehicles in US

The models are equipped with floor mats or pedals produced by the same Indian part maker as those recalled in China and Europe. In light of this, the world's major reputation rating institutions have announced special observation for Toyota. That means the rating for the company could be lowered. Some experts say Toyota's reputation for top quality has been damaged with others claiming the recall could create an opportunity for US automakers.

Automotive editor, popular mechanics, said, "It's always been my opinion that Toyota's very high quality ranking hasn't been as well deserved as it might have been. A lot of people particularly in North America perceive Toyota as a very very high quality brand. But the numbers the warranty rates the repair rates the long term longevity of those cars isn't as good as people perceive."

"It's an opportunity for the US car manufacturers to regain some of their lost market share. How much remains to be seen it depends how heavily they incentivize the vehicles that are competitive with the Toyota product that is being recalled."
