Great deal about pavilions and infrastructure at the Shanghai World Expo have been heard. But no less important is water supply. Organizers have spent 1 billion yuan on getting two water treatment plants up to speed for the big event.

Nanshi and Linjiang are two major water factories in Shanghai. Tap water from these two facilities will be supplied to the world expo. To guarantee that water is of the highest quality, a hefty 1 billion yuan has been spent since last year to set up advanced water treatment technologies and upgrade existing facilities. Upgrades are due for completion by the end of March. By then refurbished facilities will be able to provide 1.1 million tons of high-quality tap water every day.

Chen Guoguang, senior engineer of Shanghai Water Supply Management Dept., said, "We will filter the water first, and then use active carbon to filter it again, and then use ultra-filtration membranes, and finally use ultraviolet radiation."

The plants will also supply drinking water to the expo park.

Chen Guoguang said, "We set up around one hundred supply points for drinking water. They'll be one for every hundred meters and each comes equipped with 10 faucets. Total supply stands at 0.75 liters per person per day for 500 thousand people."

Authorities will keep a close watch on the quality of water. And in case of any emergencies, 3 supply trucks will be on standby.
