Special Report: 2010 Shanghai Expo Countdown |

Executive Vice Mayor Yang Xiong says most new traffic construction projects for the Expo, including the central ring road and new subway lines, are completed and open to traffic.

Ferry and streetcar lines across the Huangpu River will be completed within three months. The municipal government is planning to add new trains to subway lines to alleviate pressure on traffic. It also wants to keep carbon levels down. All the buses in the Expo use green energy like electricity. The Expo will use solar power units that could generate up to 4.6 megawatts, and the lighting system will use light-emitting diodes to save electricity. These measures are expected to reduce the Expo's total carbon emissions by 60 to 70 percent.
