China's power consumption in 2009 up 6%

Power consumption last year rose 6 percent from the year before to hit 3.6 trillion kilowatt hours.

According to the National Energy Administration growth was 0.47 percentage points higher than in 2008. Primary industries took up 95 billion kilowatt hours, up 8 percent. While secondary industries used 2.7 trillion kilowatt hours, up 4 percent. And finally, tertiary industries consumed 392 billion kilowatt hours, up 12 percent.

Power for residential use added up to 457 billion kilowatt hours, a rise of 12 percent. Investment in infrastructure in the power industry hit nearly 756 billion yuan, up 20 percent.
