Special Report: UN climate change conference in Copenhagen |
As delegates at the Copenhagen climate conference continue trying to hammer out an agreement, the Bella Center where they are gathered, is busy adopting cutting-edge technology to conserve energy. The venue hopes to demonstrate that energy reduction can and must be undertaken immediately. The Bella Center is the largest exhibition hall in northern Europe, sprawled over an area of 120 thousand square meters.
The center has invested 2.5 million euros in energy reduction innovations, including ultra-modern technology for heating, ventilation and lighting. It uses 17-hundred energy-saving lights and 52-hundred new bulbs, which together save an estimated 300 thousand kilowatt hours. It has also installed equipment to adjust air circulation automatically, which will cut energy use for ventilation by half.
