Special Report: UN climate change conference in Copenhagen |
As delegates at the Copenhagen climate conference continue trying to hammer out an agreement, the Bella Center where they are gathered is busy adopting cutting-edge technology to conserve energy. The venue hopes to demonstrate that energy reduction can and must be undertaken immediately. The Bella Center is the largest exhibition hall in northern Europe, covering an area of 120 thousand square meters.
The center has invested 2.5 million euros in energy reduction innovations, including ultra-modern technology for heating, ventilation and lighting. It uses 1,700 energy-saving lights and 5,200 new bulbs, which will save an estimated 300 thousand kilowatt hours. It has also installed equipment to adjust air circulation automatically, which will cut energy use for ventilation by half.
Electrical cars are seen, at the Bella Center, in Copenhagen, Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009. The vehicles, powered by electricity, hydrogen, methanol, algae derived diesel and hybrid technologies, were lined up with drivers outside the venue for the Climate Conference in Copenhagen on Dec. 7-18, to offer conference guests and participants a free and clean transportation around Copenhagen. |
